Don A. King Jr.

Colonel (Retired) Don A. King Jr. brings over 37 years of distinguished service to his post-military career, having served in the U.S. Army from February 25, 1986, to June 15, 2023. A native of Florida, he began his career with the 2nd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment and later transitioned to Special Forces with the 10th Special Forces Group as a Medic. After commissioning as an officer, he returned to the 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, and subsequently served with the 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne) in leadership roles, including commanding multiple Special Forces Detachment Alphas and specialized teams. Colonel King led key programs such as the U.S. Army Special Forces Assessment and Selection, U.S. Army Special Operations Forces Assessment and Selection, and the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit, where he deployed units in support of global operations. His final active-duty role was as the Fort Sill Garrison Commander. Additional strategic roles included Executive Officer to the Deputy Commanding General of USASOC, Chief of Staff for NATO Special Operations in Afghanistan, and Chief of Staff for U.S. Special Operations Command Europe. He holds a Master of Business Management and a Master of Science in National Strategic Studies, underscoring his commitment to both operational excellence and leadership development. Colonel King’s awards include the Defense Superior Service Medal, two Legions of Merit, the Bronze Star, six Meritorious Service Medals, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, and multiple badges and tabs, reflecting his exceptional career and deep dedication to service.

Job Description

The Town Manager is the chief executive officer of the Town who leads the organization, provides administrative direction, and ensures the Town operates in a fiscally responsible manner. The Town Manager is appointed by, and serves at the pleasure of the Town Council. The Town Manager's office is responsible for the day-to-day management of all operations of Town government, administration of all Town services, appointment and supervision of staff, and enforcement of all policies and procedures represented in the Town codes. Additional responsibilities of the Town Manager are represented within Article III of the Town Charter including:

  1. Execute the laws and administer the government of the town except as limited in this Charter.
  2. Appoint and, when necessary for the good of the town, remove all officers and employees of the town, except as s/he may authorize the head of a department or office to appoint and remove subordinates in such department or office, unless these powers are otherwise limited by law.
  3. Prepare the budget annually and submit it to the town council.
  4. Prepare and submit to the town council, as of the end of the fiscal year, a complete report on finances and administrative activities of the town for the preceding year.
  5. Keep the town council advised of the financial condition and future needs of the town and make such recommendations as may seem desirable to the town manager.
  6. Perform such other duties as may be prescribed by this Charter or may be required by the town council not inconsistent herewith.
